Hi there.

My name is Laurisha and I love design. I'm a Cape Town based Experience Designer and Strategist with an honours degree in Computer Science. I’ve also published a paper on User Centred Design (which you can find here).
My four years of experience has spanned projects from agile start-ups with complex strategic needs to entrenched corporates who are household names both in South Africa and internationally. The common thread running through all these projects is the fact we’re always designing for people. Whether the project is B2B or B2C, there will be a real human being using your platform - and that’s where I come in.

I love advocating for the user. Not just the ones you expect, but those who might even have slightly different needs. I strongly believe in inclusive and accessible design - striving for all users to experience the product as envisioned. This approach is not only great for business goals, but also results in innovations that uplift everyone. The same subtitles designed for people with varying hearing abilities now allow us to watch Netflix in noisy spaces when we don’t have headphones. Subtitles even allow us to explore foreign language content from parts of the world we didn’t realise existed.

My approach to design is based on that knowledge. The knowledge that empathy for the person using your product is the foundation for great design. Taking our users’ diverse experiences and needs into account will create interactions that are more useful, impactful and meaningful for everyone - and that’s what I aim to do.
